St George War Memorial

Description:
The memorial is a sandstone slab on a three tiered sandstone base. Erected by former Prisoners of War, and unveiled by Colonel Honourable R W C Swartz, Minister for Health, former POW at Changi, Singapore. Each face of the memorial displays marble plaques dedicated to the Veterans of Australia's wars.

The ANZAC Day programme in St.George:
6.00am - Dawn Service at Cenotaph St. Georges Terrace followed by breakfast at St George RSL.
9.00am - Cemetery - laying of flowers on the graves of ex-service personnel and a short service.
9.30am - War Memorial service at St George Hospital with the reading of names of all the personnel from the district who died on active service during the First and Seconde World Wars, Korea and Vietnam.
10.00am - Assembly: corner Henry Street and St Georges Terrace for 10.30am march to the Cenotaph, St Georges Terrace
11am - Community ANZAC Day Service at Cenotaph.
12 Noon - RSL Luncheon for ex-service personnel and invited guests.

This memorial was moved to current site in 2005, was previously on the corner of Grey and Victoria Streets.
