Royal Australian Regiment National Memorial Walk

Description

The Royal Australian Regiment National Memorial Memorial Walk, is one of the most significant memorial entities commemorating the service of individuals from all the Battalions that form the Regiment. The Memorial Walk consists of three separate entities, and numerous integral elements within each. The Memorial is divided into the following elements:

1. Royal Australian Regiment Roll of Honour

A large black marble Honour Roll, identifying 688 individual members of the Regiment, regardless of Battalion designation, who have died as a result of war service since 1948.

2. Royal Australian Regiment Unit Plaques (Memorial Walk)
To the side of the main entrance structure, and accompanying the memorial flagpole, there are numerous plaques that commemorate the service of individuals from various Battalion designations and secondments. Many of these plaque contain individual Rolls of Honour.

3. Royal Australian Regiment Memorial Walk (name plaques and trees)

The unique setting for the Memorial Walk surrounds the insertion of individual memorial plaques, set against 688 individually selected trees within the garden setting. The groves of trees vary and there are more than 1000 native trees along the 700 metre path.

The entire memorial is carefully tended and developed by the members of the Royal Australian Regiment Association (QLD) - http://www.rar.org.au/QLDHome.html
