Australian Independent Companies, Commando Squadrons, M and Z Special Units Plaque
Brass plaque dedicated to the memory of the 'Independent' Units of the Australian Forces during the Second World War. These units were the "Special Forces' of the era. They included Commando Squadrons; Special and secretive units, coded 'M' and 'Z' Units, who operated clandesdine and silent operations to destroy ships in enemy held harbours and destroy base and other infrastructure installations, with demolition and disruption techniques;m and other specialised units related to the war.
The plaque displays the 'double diamond' insignia of the special units and a dedciation to those who gave their lives for their country.
