Entrance to ANZAC Memorial Park is via a black granite arch with a bronze statue of a soldier on top. The War Memorial consists of three large granite boulders bearing plaques, on a concrete base (the first two boulders were unveiled in 2008; the right hand boulder was added in 2010). A Leopard I tank is displayed near the boulders. The Public amenities block features a mural (April 2015) commemorating the local men and women who served during World War I.

Additional information

Greater numbers of men enlisted for the Great War, as mining was still active in the Palmer River Goldfield.

By the Second World War, numbers had dwindled to only a few on the minefields, and therefore fewer enlistments. Cooktown itself was heavily evacuated during World War 2 resulting in enlistments being outside of the district.
