Emerald War Memorial

A 'Ulam' marble draped obelisk with crossed rifles on a typical Petrie base. The monument is set in the centre of the main street, Clermont Street, opposite the railway station. Set on a concrete base, which has been painted green, it possesses a low concrete wall to protect it from traffic turning. Dedicated in 1924.
THIS STONE IS ERECTED BY THE CITIZENS OF EMERALD AND DISTRICT IN MEMORY OF THE FALLEN AND IN HONOUR OF THOSE WHO ENLISTED FROM THE SHIRE AND PARTICIPATED IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1919
A further plaque (grey marble) at the base of the memorial reads: THIS STONE IS ERECTED BY THE CITIZENS OF EMERALD AND DISTRICT IN MEMORY OF THE FALLEN AND IN HONOUR AND APPRECIATION OF THOSE WHO ENLISTED FROM THE SHIRE AND PARTICIPATED IN WORLD WAR II 1939–1945.
