Ingham War Memorial

Location of Ingham War Memorial

Ingham, 109km north of Townsville, in the Keith Payne VC Botanical Gardens, Palm Terrace (opposite Jane Street)
Ingham QLD 4850

Memorial is a tall, dark marble column set on circular stepped base surrounded by a circular brick paving, floodlit at night. Formerly at the main city intersection the memorial was relocated to the Keith Payne VC Botanical Gardens and is surrounded by shrubs and trees set in well kept lawns. A flagpole to the side of the memorial was presented by Herbert River Sub-Branch RSL on 25 April 1959. A cross is carved into the marble near the top of the memorial with an inscription underneath: They are remembered. Plaques set into the memorial read: Korea, 1 name: 1939–1945 war, 11 names, and World War I, 9 names, a total of 21 fallen. Other names listed around the memorial comprise 26 World War I and 34 World War II names. In an unusual pattern, the names are in alphabetical order around the memorial rather than the usual vertical combination.
