Ipswich Cemetery Cross of Sacrifice
A sandstone cross memorial on a large plinth base and paved platform. This cross is positioned on a corner in front of white marble Headstones of Commonwealth War Graves Commission specifications.
The headstones indicate the final burial place of 68 WWII servicemen.
The Cross bears a bronze sword, displayed point down, either signifying dead of the warrior, or possibly a 'Christian' symbol, indicating that the dead 'fought the good fight, in accordance with Christian ideals.
Designed by Sir Reginald Blomfield for the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and is the focal point of the numerous Commonwealth war cemeteries throughout the world. It is a four point limestone Latin cross.
